Members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States, voted yesterday to amend their church's constitution to change the definition of marriage so as to include same-sex marriage.

The wording in the church's constitution was voted to change the church's definition of marriage from being between "a man and a woman" to "two people, traditionally a man and a woman." While some LGBT supporters might not think the wording ideal given the emphasis on the traditional definition, the broader change in the church's stance on same-sex marriage is what ultimately matters.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has 1.8 million members, though its membership has been declining in recent years. Many departed, in fact, when the church decided to allow openly gay and lesbian members to be ordained as pastors as well as other church leadership roles.
