Similar to the recent bills passed in Indiana and Arkansas, North Carolina has its own "religious freedom" bill. The bill was introduced to the North Carolina's state legislature only last week. But, given the public backlash against Indiana since a similar bill was signed into law by that state's governor, lawmakers seem more hesitant to act on it.

According to WTVD, North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore emphasized the fact that this bill does not factor as a "high priority." North Carolina's Governor Pat McCrory said on a radio talk show that he doesn't see what problem the bill is trying to solve.

Some have argued that North Carolina's version of the "religious freedom" bill was potentially more damaging than other states'. The proposed law could allow individuals, businesses and organizations to ignore laws that they claim violate their religious beliefs. Many believe that these bills are targeted specifically at the LGBT community and are meant to allow organizations and businesses from discriminating against LGBT people in the name of religion. However, in reality, North Carolina's bill could potentially have harmful effects of all kinds for many groups of people.
